I'm so excited! We're planning our first car-free family vacation to the Windy City - Chicago here we come via Amtrak.
The Empire Builder leaves Ann Arbor early Saturday mornings, arrives in downtown Chicago by noon and leaves Chicago at dinner time every day, with arrival back in Ann Arbor by midnight. We plan to bike to and from the Ann Arbor train station (with minimal luggage).
We've never been to Chicago...what should we see, considering that we'll be downtown, near the train station for 24 hours with only our walking shoes and backpacks?

There is a free trolley that runs all over downtown and the Miracle Mile during the summer. It's often very full, but worth the trouble.
